I preached on Genesis 12:10-20 yesterday sa church. It's about Abram being tested right after God told him his lifetime calling, formed a covenant with him, and gave him a commission. Two obvious fears ni Abrah--fear of going hungry, and fear of being killed. Sino ang hero dito? Si God na naman. God caught Abram in his lying and failure as a man of God and a husband. God showered his grace to Abram and Sarai sa pamamagitan ni Pharaoh. Nahuli si Abram sa kanyang pagsisinungaling. This man of God, "Father of faith", needed God's grace at this time.
Abram failed his test because he looked for a functional savior to save him from his "hell". What is your greatest fear? Who do you run for comfort? Sabi ni Mark Driscoll sa kanyang sermon, "An idol is something or someone you trust to save you from the intolerable circumstance you define." May idol ka ba sa buhay?
The good news is that although Abram failed the test, God remembered his call, his covenant, and his commission kay Abram. God sent Pharaoh and his servants to bring Abram back to where God wanted him to be.
"Panginoon, kung pumalpak man ako, i-rescue po ninyo ako sa sarili kong butas."
